About 300-500 Apec senior finance officials will arrive in Madang next week for a four-day workshop and plannery meeting as a lead-up to the main summit in November.
The committee involved in organising the meeting were adding final touches in their preparation and were ready to welcome the delegations.
Committee chairman Markus Kachau said there would be a Madang traditional welcome ceremony for the arriving guests and entertainments.
In a committee meeting yesterday, each stakeholder outlined their operations as well as adding and subtracting necessary items on their lists.
Madang police commander Chief Inspector Ben Neneo said the security operation will be on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis.
“We have 20 additional men power from Port Moresby coming to join us here,” Neneo said.
He said the police officers were specially trained for the event.
Water PNG area manager Patrick Jinimbo requested security at the water PNG treatment plant.
Neneo said the police security plans included the water facilities.
“We will start off with road searches before the guests arrive and will also have water police patrol,” he said.
Meanwhile, town residents and groups engaged have begun cleaning the town in preparation for the meeting.
Madang urban council has issued notices to residents along the Modilon road to clean up and tidy their fencelines.
