DIVINE Word University has taken the lead in introducing Futsal competition in Madang starting off with children.
Not very popular in the province, the competition involving children of staff members at the university campus is into its second year.
The children are currently involved in Futsal coaching clinics.
Branding itself as Diwai Kids Futsal (DFK), the aim of the competition is to provide fun and enjoyment among the children.
DKF consists of six teams playing in three divisions,  the Under 17, Under 14 and Under 11, with at least 50 children from the campus.
The competition is into round 12 and is currently in recess for two weeks. It will resume on Saturday.
DKF patron Dr Jerome Semos said that parents should owe it to their children for giving them a head-start in training to life and soccer skills, including social growth and development.
Engaging children in Futsal games is an excellent opportunity for them to develop other skills to socialise with others, he said.
The DKF management has been hosting barbecues over the weekends to raise money to support the DKF.
