Madang needs effective service delivery

MADANG has one of the least developed communication systems in Papua New Guinea.

The province also lacks improvement in the land transportation sea transport sectors.

We have not improved health centres in the remote areas, even though our leaders have been entitled to District Services Improvement Program (DSIP) funds for the past four years. There is no centralised system to monitor medical drugs shortages in many health centres and even our provincial health authorities in Madang have no way to keep track of the supply and delivery mechanism.

An upsurge in the Zika virus will have a devastating effect on our people.

There are no effective anti-malarial eradication programmes while the current heavy rains have multiplied the number of mosquitoes in our back yards.

As well, our health workers are refusing to go to the rural areas. I wonder whether Madang has ever adopted the provincial health plan.

The accessibility by our rural community to health centres has not improved because of the transport and communication services that we just don’t have as funding from the provincial government has been non-existent.

With poor communication systems the performance of public servants in our districts has dropped drastically because there has been no command and control by our  provincial administration.
