Madang plans cleanaton

PREPARATIONS are under way to get people in Madang town to keep their marine sites and town clean.
The event is being organised by the Madang Visitors and Cultural Bureau.
It will be held at the Tumbuna Haus on August 26, with activities including canoeing, kayaking and a bicycle race at Forum Park.
Events coordinator Jane Naso said the event would be the first of its kind and needed the support of the community and newly-elected political leaders, public servants and businesses.
“The event is to involve the community, especially youths and students, to take ownership and responsibility to take care and look after our town and its marine sites and to promote their significance,” Naso said.
She said the town was not only experiencing an investor boom but received visitors almost every day.                     
“The communities from benefit directly and indirectly from investors and tourists; therefore it’s appropriate for us to keep not only the town but marine sites clean as well,” Naso said.
The event allows everyone to take part.dents under 18-years-old to take part as well.
The registration fee for students is K10 for bicycle and canoe race, K15 for kayaking, while adults will pay K15 for canoe and bicycle races and K20 for kayaking. 
In a lead-up activity, a clean-a-thon will be held on Aug 11, starting at Forum Park to the Kalibobo Lighthouse and ending at Machine Gun beach.
The bureau urged interested participants to register and support the event for its success.
