THE Jomba police station daily occurrence book, the charge and cell register books went missing in the early hours of last Saturday.
Madang provincial police commander in Madang, Anthony Wagambie Junior is appealing to people to return the books, saying it was like “someone burning down the police station”.
“All our records are lost. The book is of no use to whoever has taken it,”he said.
“All data is input manually and not at the click of a button and this is really shameful,” he said.
Wagambie said he would appeal to the provincial government and headquarters to fund fencing around the back of the station, which was open to the public.
“I think Madang is the only province where the police station is not fenced,” he said.
“Impounded items, especially vehicles, left at the back car park are constantly tampered with by anyone lurking around the station, prisoners escaping from the cell rooftop have only one jump to make and office equipment is susceptible to thieves, he said.
Wagambie said the suspect was known and detectives were working round the clock to pick up the suspect.
He said Christmas and New Year operation orders were to be dispatched soon.
He said there had been a decrease in crime in the recent weeks except for underage drinking, where school graduation parties turned rowdy.
“I will be talking to the provincial education board to have schools discipline children arrested by us for underage drinking,” he said
“It is against the law for children to be drinking, even under adult supervision.”
We will not arrest the child but their parents for not keeping an eye on their child,” he said.
