Madang police told to work together

MADANG provincial police commander Chief Insp Anthony Wagambie Jr has urged his policeman and women to work together to address law and order in the province.
Addressing them during the commander’s parade last week, Chief Insp Wagambie said the strength of their work was the communities and urged them to assist the communities.
He said he needed everyone to work together and protect the lives and properties of the citizens and their properties even with the limited resources they had.
Chief Insp Wagambie sympathised that they were over-worked but the safety and lives of the people were of paramount importance.
He said too often, communities did not assist the police and vice versa but he wanted to see change.
Meanwhile, a community leader, who wished to remain anonymous, appealed to the Madang provincial government to assist the police.
He said the police lacked resources like ammunition, vehicles and other equipment to protect the communities.
The leader said taxes should be used to fund police work in the province so that the people lived in a crime-free environment.
He called on Madang Open MP Buka Malai to return to his electorate and address law and order problems.
He said Mr Malai should use his electorate funds to replace the aging police vehicles.
