BASIC elementary education is the foundation for every school child in Papua New Guinea.

If we are to prioritise education and aim high in development for our country, we must consider elementary education a key to universal education.

I am not an educationist but I note that there is more to be done to boost elementary education.

I am from the Sumkar district in Madang province and this is what I see still lacking and needs to be upgraded.

Many elementary schools in the Sumgilbar local level government area in Sumkar  have no formally trained teachers.

Schools were established in our area were established with no proper coordination from Education authorities from the district or provincial levels.

Many elementary schools are missing out on the Tuition Fee Free (TFF) funds making it hard for parents, teachers and students. I commend and encourage them to keep up their good efforts.

Can the Madang provincial elementary education coordinator intervene and assist these schools and teachers?

We have a big problem here and need government people to respond immediately and seriously do something.
