Madang stays calm as 5.9 earthquake strikes

MADANG residents have been praised for keeping themselves in doors after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit 43 kilometres east of the town.
Town mayor Joe Yama commended the residents for not panicking.
Sumkar MP Chris Nangoi said he received word from the people on Karkar the earthquake was felt more on the island but there was no casualty or damage reported.
Madang provincial acting director for disaster office Rudolf Mongallee said there were no casualties reported to the office.
He asked that any casualties or effects of the earthquake to be reported to the disaster office immediately.
