A COLLEGE student from Madang thanked God for saving him in what he described as a high-speed motor accident near Top Town in Lae, Morobe, last Saturday.
The accident happened at the Upstreet Junction near the Lae District office at about 3am.
Benga Alul, 18, from Loteva village in North Coast recalled they were travelling at a high speed and there was little chance anyone involved in the accident would have survived.
Alul said there were four passengers in the vehicle — all males — when the driver lost control and smashed into a power pole before the vehicle plunged 30m down a steep slope beside the road.
“We were travelling at high speed and the driver lost control,” the first-year Asia-Pacific Technical College student said.
He said they were on their way from town, heading  towards Voco Point, when the incident happened.
He denied they had been drinking.
Alul said all the passengers were from Madang and the vehicle was a private car belonging to a family member.
They all sustained injuries and were treated at the Angau Memorial Hospital before being released.
Lae traffic police are investigating.
