THE Madang Teachers College aims to improve its image with the announcement of a zero tolerance  policy on alcohol.

The policy was announced last week and a billboard at the college’s main gate was unveiled to show it.

Principal Mathias Sully said there had been too much alcohol-related violence on campus involving outsiders living around the college and this was one way of curbing that.

Dr Michael Mel, of the University of Goroka, who was guest speaker at the unveiling of the billboard, said it stood as  a reminder to help shape students and not threaten them.

“It should not be seen as a threat, you have a noble profession and this is one way of helping you stay focused,” he said.

The event coincided with the opening of a school canteen for the students.
