MAmOse governors will have a lot to discuss with the rest of the country during the National Governors’ Conference in Madang next month.
The conference, which would have been held this week, has been deferred to next month.
This was according to the Mamose Governors’ Council Secretariat in Madang.
Acting director for the secretariat, Julie Ariako, said Mamose had big development plans which were discussed during several past governors’ meetings.
Ariako said border security for the PNG-Indonesia special economic zone project was one such agenda.
She said the secretariat was happy to see that Mamose governors and MPs were working together to push for the projects.
Another was for a regional railway with fast connections to the Markham, Ramu and Sepik plains.
The Mamose railway was first mooted in 2001 by then Morobe governor and former council chairman Luther Wenge.
Ariako said Mamose was determined to host an international highway for people moving in and out to do business.
Madang Governor Peter Yama said the railway would help people travel faster and cut down on cost of air travel.
“Highway is there already but the missing links have to be connected,” he said.
Yama said having a railway for Madang was one of his long-time ambitions.
He said extension of the Madang Airport runway was also long overdue.
