Madang to host volleyball championship

THE Northern Zone Volleyball League (NZVL) announced this week that Madang will host its championship from July 22-25.
The Madang Amateur Volleyball Association (MAVA) have been given the honour of hosting the four-day regional event at the Bau Vocational Centre.
NZVL Madang-based treasurer Steven Kadam said all preparations were on target with a commitment by host president William Bagore and his executives organising championship.
Despite a lack of support from business houses and theprovincial government, MAVA secured the sponsorship of Madang MP Buka Malai who invited organisers to hold the event in his electorate.
Teams confirmed to play are Madang Urban, Dimer, Dabasa, Kokomo, Wewak Urban, Vanimo, Manus Country, Ramu Sugar, Zifazing, Mare, Kaiapit, Nazab, Mutzing, Huon, Lae, Butibam, Bulolo, Wau and Finschafen.
Teams from the Highlands region have also shown interest in participating.

Fees for this year are K300 to affiliate an association and K150 registration for a team.
The deadline for affiliations and team registrations is July 19 and NZVL will not entertain payments after the deadline.
Kadam said NZVL were committed to ensuring volleyball is developed and promoted at the district level, particularly in villages, and not just in urban centres only.
