HEKARI United’s prodigal son Alick Maemae has rejoined the club in preparation for the 2010 O-League season and the FIFA Club World Cup championship in December.
According to the Solomon Star, Maemae flew in to Port Moresby last Saturday and had reportedly signed a two-year contract with Hekari as a sign of solidarity and commitment to the PNG champions.
Maemae and his compatriot Stanley Waita were the centre of media attraction when they made headlines in Solomon Islands and PNG press after they were reportedly axed by Hekari United.
However, the Hekari management cleared the air recently stating that Maemae was still part of the team while Waita was the only player released by the club.
Hekari franchise owner John Kapi Natto said recently that Maemae had rejoined the club and was in full training with the other players in preparation for the 2010-11 National Soccer League season and the FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
Kapi Natto said he heard other clubs were also picking up a few Solomon Islands and Vanuatu players to boost their campaigns this season.
However, he added that Hekari was prepared to take them on.
Meanwhile, Solomon Islands representative in 2010 O-League season, Koloale FC have signed former Waitekere United flanker Benjamin Totori and under 23 star midfielder Michael Fifi’l as part of rebuilding process to participate in the O-League championship.
Both were the latest signing after Samson Takayama and former Eastern Star fullback Timothy Joe.
Koloale FC signed Fifi’l from the New Zealand club to replace Richard Anisua, who returned to Vanuatu champions, Amical FC for the O-League.
Solomon Islands Koloale, Vanuatu’s Amical, Fiji’s Lautoka and PNG’s Hekari are placed in the same pool for the O-League this season.
