MAGANI escaped defeat at the hands of Brothers with a 10-4 win in the semi-final of Kiunga rugby football league competition over the weekend.
Lock forward Clinton Tube scored the winning try as both sides were held to a 4-4 deadlock after regulation time, forcing the match extra time.
After the first five minutes of extra time, the scores remained unchanged but it was the second stanza when Tube showed his brilliance by breaking through the Brothers’ defence, then made a 40m to cross over the winning try.
Brothers were the first to score when hooker Nangare Araget crossed for a try to lead 4-0.
However, Magani replied shortly after through Salua Begama to level the scores 4-4 and force the match in stalement.
It was sweet victory for Magani but Brothers had to pay after missing three field goal attempts.
In the U17 division, Waliya held Fly Warriors to a 2-2 draw last Friday. Wybon Beong converted a penalty for the Warriors while Joshua Bonne also found the uprights to the level the scores.
However, the match was called off due poor lighting and had to be replayed on Sunday which saw Joshua Bonne’s field goal finding the uprights to give his side a 1-0 victory.
In the U19 category, Magani defeated Brothers 6-2 while Fly Warriors beat Waliya 6-4,
In the A reserve division, Fly Warriors hammered Waliya 14-10 and Brothers walked over Magani 4-0, while in the A grade division, Warriors belted Waliya 2-1 and Magani walloped Brothers 17-6.
Waliya will lock horns with Brothers in the U17 division while in the U19 category, Warriors face Brothers this weekend.
In the other matches, Brothers take on high-flying Waliya in the A reserve grade and Magani meet Waliya in the A grade.
