Magari names new chairman, directors

FOUR new company directors and a chairman have been elected to run the Magari Ltd, a company representing landowners within the inland pipeline area of the Ramu nickel project in Madang province.
The new board members are chairman Pewa Aimai, vice-chairman Lamok Dagun and directors Russel Meluk and Sun Bob.
The directors represented the four major clans situated along the Magari (inland) pipeline areas, namely, Usino, Iguruwe, Ono and Naru.
Other directors to assist the four were John Sun, who represented the nickel project developer Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd and Management Services Company (MSC) and Peter Tai, representing the Maigari Landowners Association (LOA).
Tai is the ex-officio member in the Magari Ltd board.
The directors, in a meeting on Wednesday voted in Aimai, who represented Naru clan as chairman.
Vice-chairman Dagun represented Iguruwe clan, while Bob and Meluk represented Usino and Ono respectively.
Following the election of the directors, Tai explained that since they were still to get company’s office up and running, MSC would be looking after the secretariat and treasurer’s function for the meantime.
Magari was established in 2007.
Currently it held 20% in Raibus Ltd, the umbrella landowner company in the muti-billion kina Ramu nickel project.
New chairman Aimai said with the election of the board, it was hoped that they would cooperate and work together to improve the company’s management.
