Court users at the district and provincial courts can now save time and money by accessing court information through the internet.
The Magisterial Services of Papua New Guinea last Friday launched its website (www.magisterialservices.gov.pg) in Port Moresby to bring its “counter services” to members of the public.
And IT manager Murphy Saesaria said it was a first of its kind for the magisterial courts in the region apart from Australia and New Zealand to go online.
Saesaria said the website was simple, user-friendly and had all the basic information the public needed to know.
“The website has four basic features that include a daily court diary, court case search, court resources and counter query,” he said.
National Judicial Staff Services secretary Kapi Sarohafa, who spoke on behalf of the Chief Justice, praised the magisterial services staff.
Sarohafa said the beauty of the website was that people could have access to
vital, updated information at the click of a button.
He pointed out that 80% of the population lived in rural areas and did not have access to electricity, computers and internet to use this and other important websites.
Chief Magistrate Jack August said the website was in line with the magisterial services’ last corporate plan 2006-10, which among other things, arranged for a district court electronic case management system.
