Mt Hagen District Court magistrate in Western Highlands Lydia Karre wants to know why police are not executing bench warrants.
She asked in her court room yesterday for the police prosecutor to explain why many warrants issued by the court were not actioned.
She said they were serious matters and once a court issued a bench warrant, police must make it their duty to arrest the offender and bring them to court.
She expressed grave concern when striking out a case for want of prosecution in a family sexual violence case because police had failed to execute a bench warrant and arrest the offender.
The complainant didn’t turn up for court either.
In other district court proceedings yesterday, magistrate Jacinta Doa found Ismael Mahn, from Simbai in Madang, guilty of drink driving and causing accident. She said that drink driving causing accident was a serious matter and ordered him to pay a K500 court fine.
Police traffic prosecutor Michael Peter told the court that Mahn under the influence of alcohol, along with four others, drove into Mt Hagen from Kagamuga Airport Aug 24 and collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser at the Dobel section of the Okuk Highway.
He said that police attended the scene and found five bottles of beer inside the vehicle Mahn was driving.
