Magpies bag 21-0 win over Uni Tigers

GEREHU Magpies thrashed University Tigers 21-0 in the women’s division of Port Moresby Australian Football League (POMAFL) round six game at Colts Oval on Sunday.
Tigers looked confused throughout the game as they couldn’t coordinate attack and matched the Magpies outfit.
Magpies kicked three goals and three behinds, all answered, as they kept Tigers scoreless to win. Magpies’ Monica Vaisen was outstanding with her passes and also managed her side’s game well.
Mary Ila was also outstanding for the Magpies as she kicked a goal and provided calm and control for her side.
For the Tigers, Rose Robin was a standout despite the loss.
Robin took a lot of marks and tried her best to lift her side throughout the match but there were no support play when she needed it.
Tigers were still at last spot in the six-team women’s ladder after six rounds. The cellar dwellers had only recorded a win and five losses in the season so far.
For Magpies win over Tigers was their second of the season. Magpies had lost three games and were fourth on the ladder.
Tigers’ Rose Robin said after the game that her side would not give up. She said they would continue to train hard in order to improve their game going forward in the season.
“We are competing hard in every game but we still fall short,” Robin said.
“We will continue to give our best despite our poor start in the season and hopefully improve later.”
