Talapia Magpies’ fullback Jasco John put on an outstanding performance topped off with a try that levelled the scores 8-8 with Erima Hurricanes on Sunday in the National Capital District suburban rugby league competition.
The round nine fixture for the teams, who are positioned in the bottom eight, was an even tussle throughout.
The Hurricanes were first to register points with a try through centre Judah Joel but the conversion was unsuccessful.
Magpies levelled with two penalty goals booted in by halfback Garret Walker.
Joel came alive again in the second-half and scored another unconverted try to elevate the Hurricanes to an 8-4 lead.
However, as the seconds ticked towards full time, Magpies fullback John scored in a solo effort to level the score again.
It would have been a narrow win for the Erima Hurricanes but for the unsuccessful conversion attempt.
Hurricanes supporters, coach and players claimed that the penalty that led to the last try by Magpies to level the score was a late call by the referee. The encounter was physical and both teams displayed some classic actions
