Maha ready to lead Garamuts

NATIONAL Under-19 men’s cricket team skipper Barnabas Maha says he is ready to lead the 15-man squad in this month’s World Cup in the West Indies.
The 19-year-old is a third generation cricketer taking after the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
“I’ve been captain for a year now,” the all-rounder said. “I was also part of the squad that competed in the qualifiers in Japan.
“This is my second chance to captain the side again.
“The aim as captain is to go out there, show our skills and play our game.
“We’re going to play our Papua New Guinea way of cricket, nothing fancy, just go and enjoy ourselves there.”
Maha said although 2021 was a tough year with Coronavirus (Covid-19) challenges, he was grateful to Cricket PNG for their efforts in preparing the team for the World Cup.
“I’d like to take this time to thank Cricket PNG,” he said.
“Covid-19 has made things really tough, but they’ve made it possible for us by preparing the team for the World Cup.”
When asked what his encouragement was to upcoming cricketers, Maha urged them to work hard give their best in everything they ddid.
“My encouragement to young cricketers dreaming of playing in the national team is to work hard and give your best,” he said.
“Push yourselves and do the small things right, there are no limits.”
