Major facelift for hospital
The National, Wednesday March 26th, 2014
The Modilon General Hospital, in Madang, is to have a major facelift with the construction of a new operating theatre.
Project head, Albert Sika said the hospital had been offered funding assistance for projects that will be implemented this year.
The K18 million building approved under the Provincial Improvement Plan with the Department of National Planning will house operating rooms for paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedic and general surgery.
Another plus for the hospital is the installation of computer aided radiography machines in the X-ray department.
A 500 kva generator was installed last year and has greatly helped hospital operations.
Sika said the hospital had two new sterilising machines for the Intensive Care Unit, which had been closed for nine years.
It is awaiting the appointment of registrars for the ward.
“Specialist nurses are what we need. Only then will our ICU be re-opened to the public,” he said.
Doctor Taita Kila is the only specialist doctor at the ICU who needs three registrars, anaesthetists and nurses.
