Makana ready to work

Letters

ON the topic of settlement upgrade in the three NCD electorates, there are about 100 plus settlements both on customary and state land and in North East alone.
We have quite a number of settlement that covers huge land mass and populated by well over five to six thousand settler in given settlement.
Our suggestion to our MP and Housing and Urbanisation minister John Kaupa is that he should seek corroborative effort with the Governor’s office, as the upgrading programme involves number of stages before it will fully be implemented.
It also requires stakeholders like the PNG Power, Eda Ranu and mostly the monetary resources.
We also suggest that; most important thing is to assist the community to organize themselves through association or groups so that the policy can be carried out in more coordinated manner.
Makana settlement in ward 12 of North East Electorate is ready to work with our MP in this upgrading program as we have been mobilized through the Establishment Of Makana Development Foundation Inc. with the little assistance from the Governor, we have carried awareness and have completed our settlement profiling.
We are all aware that; Morata, Eight Mile and Makana settlements were selected to pilot this programme some years ago; however it was abandoned to reason unknown.
We suggest and appeal to Our Governor to revisit the files and start with the three in this term of parliament.
