Make report transparent

Letters

I HAVE searched online to access financial records of the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and cannot find anything.
Can someone in authority who has access to such information put it out for public consumption?
I am dismayed no one has been vocal about this given the vast tracks of funds being received by such the office.
Some questions that come to mind are:

  • How much monthly GST is collected by NCDC from the tax office?;
  • How much grants are received from donors, partners and the National Government?; and,
  • How much is spent on health, education, law and order, sports, roads, community and social, youth, women, regulatory issues etc. Does anybody know?

If nobody knows then how are we going to pass judgment on the performance of the NCDC executives and the governor?
There is no transparency in the financial reports.
Only fools will look at the fancy bright lights, roads leading to nowhere and propaganda events and say “yes, all is good”.
But how much have they spent?
From these figures, can we justify everything?
Filth, law and order, overcrowded residences, uncontrolled informal markets, drug and alcohol abuse are rampant in the city.
The NCDC governor and the office are required to control, manage and administer the city and ensure its residents welfare are taken care of.
NCDC should co-operate with other government departments to provide quality services.
They have failed miserably in these aspects.
In respect to the NCDC’s financial reports, the Auditor-General (AG) is required to inspect and audit the accounts and records of the office.
Once the AG has finalised his report, he hands it to the governor to be tabled on the floor of Parliament.
This has never happened.
What an absolute disgrace.
Residents need to make noise about these issues as we are currently being shortchanged by Governor Powes Parkop, city manager Bernard Kipit and the NCDC.
