Make use of institutions, says uni boss

COMMUNITIES, associations, companies or Incorporated Land Groups (ILGs) must always make use of the institutions in the province by asking for help rather than looking outside the province.
Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment (PNGUNRE) Vice-Chancellor Dr Issac Pue said this at an ILG training session in Kokopo.
Dr Pue said it was the first for an ILG to come to the university to ask them to facilitate the training.
He said the university was happy to collaborate with community groups and other associations.
“This is a great opportunity and all are welcome,” he said.
“We do not have to go look for people outside to come, we have our own human resource here and expertise that we can use.”
Dr Pue congratulated more than 60 participants that had undergone the three-day training about management and governance.
“Thank you for recognising UNRE as a training institution,” he said.
“UNRE now has a fast way where people can get back to the system and be educated and there are ways here that we can help.”
Dr Pue said it was a valuable workshop which allowed community groups to work together to learn and create networks.
