PRIME Minister James Marape has urged people in Jiwaka to take advantage of their ideal location inside the “special economic zone” stretching from Kundiawa, Chimbu, to Mt Hagen, Western Highlands.
Marape was at Kurumul last Friday to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the new K220 million provincial headquarters.
“This headquarters will be a waste if Jiwakans don’t have money in their accounts,” he said.
“Jiwaka is not like Hela, it is situated along the highway of money.
“And where do you get money from? It’s in the land.
“Land with no development is land with no value.”
He encouraged those living along the highway to register their land with the provincial lands division.
The Government is willing to arrange for those with registered land titles to obtain loans from the National Development Bank to start businesses.
“You must free up your land and create business opportunities for yourself,” he said.
“We are hindering our progress when we hold back our land.”
Marape reminded Jiwakans that the province has huge potential to run projects in agriculture, tourism and businesses.
He urged people to save money to do business and not spend on unnecessary things.
