POLICE in Malalaua are still waiting for funding to carry out urgent operations in Kerema and the Taurelakemu LLG in Gulf.

Malalaua police station operations commander Snr Const Otto Kumel said they came to Port Moresby two weeks ago to see Kerema MP Richard Mendani about the funds.

Kumel said police needed to adress the growing drugs-for-guns trade in Gulf, Western, Morobe and the Highlands at Kakaro, the transit point in Taurelakemu.

“The funds however have not been released to us yet,” Kumel said.

“Once the funds are given to us, we will go to Kakiva village to mediate and try to resolve a matter relating to the death of a community-based constable last year.

“The tension is high at Kakiva after the suspect fled to Lae.”

He said villages in the two LLGs in Kerema would be included in their operation.
