National Capital District police  have charged a Malaysian national with fraud-related offences.

Peter Ling Koh Woo, 61, was the former managing director of Cakara Alam PNG, a logging company operating in West New Britain.

He was the managing director for nine years until his termination in 2015.

He was arrested and charged with one count of misappropriation, two counts of false pretence and one count of causing division within the police force.

NCD assistant police commander Sylvester Kalaut confirmed the arrest of Ling.

Ling was also charged with misappropriation in relation to K350,000, the property of Cakara Alama Limited which he was alleged to have paid into his privately-owned company, Evergreen Ltd.

Cakara Alama managing director Jacky Lee laid a complaint with police and Ling was arrested and charged.

Ling was charged with false pretence following a complaint that he had entered into some agreement with landowners in Wewak, East Sepik.

But there was no project undertaken.

Kalaut said Ling was also charged with using police to effect the arrest of complainant Jacky Lee. The case was dismissed.

There were other instances where certain police officers were transferred as a result of this case.

For this reason, Ling was charged with causing division among police officers.

The police investigation found that Ling had unethically abused his position with Cakara Alam to incorporate his own private company, Evergreen Limited, purportedly to be a forest participant in the country in logging and agro-forestry.

Ling was released on bail and  is expected to appear in court today.
