THE Caritas Technical Secondary School and learning centre in Port Moresby have received K50,000 from the Malaysian Association of PNG.
Malaysian Association fundraising committee chairperson Ivan Lu said they chose to donate again to the school, particularly the children’s learning centre, because it was a well-organised institution and therefore deserved recognition.
He said the funds were part of the K650,000 raised during the Malaysia Business Council charity golf challenge last year.
The Malaysian Association president Nathaniel Ho said they gave the school K15,000 in 2010, K20,000 last year and increased the funding to K50,000 this year.
The association hopes to organise the charity golf challenge better so that they can raise more funds to assist institutions such as Caritas.
School director Sr Florentina Choe thanked the association for the donation.
Cho said the children’s learning centre had grown since it began in 2007.
It has a roll of 108 students in kindergarten and pre-school.
The elementary level was introduced this year.
She said they had set up poultry projects from the donations they received. Families in the surrounding settlements raised money from these projects to pay for their children’s school fees in elementary and primary schools and colleges.
The donation this time will be used to assist in the building of four classrooms for the learning centre and staff houses for the secondary school
