MORESBY Northeast MP Andrew Mald has called on the Electoral Commission to monitor the movement of people.
His call comes after reports of people moving back to their original electorates in time for the voting period.
Mald said with the election around the corner people living in electorates should not move as that would cause great inconvenience for electorate officers in updating the common roll.
“We have failed badly in making sure people do not move from one electorate to another as this will cause an extra burden on polling officers.
“When this happens, the common roll will not be updated and it will be all over the place as people’s movements are not supervised.”
Mald said people tended to use services in one electorate and “when the elections are coming up they move to their original electorates”.
