TEAMS from Moresby North-east electorate will be given an opportunity to participate at the NCD Games to push for spots in the Team NCD for the PNG Games in Kokopo, East New Britain in November.
Moresby North-east MP Andrew Mald said yesterday it would be an excellent opportunity for the youths.
When announcing the launch of the Easter Cup set for Feb 29 at the Unagi Park yesterday, he said teams would be battling for the K300,000, the biggest prize money on offer.
“This is an excellent opportunity for the youths to participate and I believe a number of players will represent the NCD,” he said.
“We should take pride and credibility because our district is moving forward in the sports programme.
“The involvement of singsing groups adds more significance to the event.”
Mald said he had committed K1 million to hosting the Christmas and Easter Cup challenges to keep youths at the community and grassroots level busy.
He added that the challenge would be held at 23 locations, including Gordon 5.
Mald said zone champions would get trophies and K1,000 in prize money, the runners-up K500 and third place K300. There will also be consolation prizes for participating teams.
The winners of respective locations will advance to the Mald Easter Cup challenge at Unagi Park before the Issuing of Writs in April.
NCDC youth/sports officer Rex Kuman has been tasked to coordinate the programme.
Kuman said teams would be participating in soccer, volleyball, touch rugby and basketball.
He is appealing to the zone coordinators to see him at the NCDC Lagatoi Haus.
