Mall response unit conducts security drill

SECURITY is always a concern for any business including the Vision City Mega Mall in Port Moresby which gets an average of 25,000 visitors daily.
Mall management conducted a fire drill and active shooter drill yesterday.
Security and safety manager Sevanaia Koroi said the exercise, in partnership with the Prosecure security firm, was to ensure that the safety and security of
its 100-plus tenants and customers.
NCD Met Supt Perou N’Dranou said security was everyone’s business and thanked the Vision City management for having its own response unit.
“All shopping malls like this one should have their own basic capacity to respond,” he said.
Members of the St John Ambulance, PNG Fire Service, NCD police and other stakeholders witnessed the drill.
Koroi said being the country’s largest shopping complex, it wanted to ensure there was cohesiveness in coordination between emergency responders and authorities.
“The fire evacuation drill highlights the strong link that we have with the fire department,” he said.
“Events of recent times have somewhat turned the tide on how security should be looked at and handled.
He said the Risk Management Unit with a mixture of expatriates and local operatives was on standby to ensure “we have over-watch around the clock”.
