Man’s death sparks clash between Morobe villagers
The National, Thursday March 3rd, 2016
TENT City police station commander Jack Sakaili confirmed the death of a man over the weekend by the Marambi River in Gobadik village, Nawaeb district, Morobe, sparking a clash between the Kiroro communities of Kabwum and upper Nabak communities at Bumayong in Lae.
Sakaili said the incident occurred after a mother from Kiroro went to the garden at Gobadik on Saturday morning and was stopped by a man from Nabak along the Marambi River.
“The man stopped the mother because of a previous incident in which a widow, also from Kabwum, was killed and dumped at Gobadik last month.
“The mother then returned home and gave false report, prompting her relatives to mobilise up to Marambi River,” Sakaili said.
“The Nabak man was then chopped to death by the Kiroros.”
Sakaili said the Nabaks at Gobadik raided the Kiroro community members at Bumayong on Sunday morning, burning houses.
