Man accused of rape arrested

A 24-year-old man accused of raping a five-year-old girl on Christmas Day at Porebada village in Central has been arrested and charged, Central police say.
Police commander Chief Supt Johannes Yapi said the accused was the brother of the victim’s mother and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Yapi said the incident occurred in the early hours of Christmas.
He said the accused while drinking with his brother-in-law, left the party, went to their family house picked-up the little girl from her bed and took her to the nearby mangroves and raped her.
Yapi said rape was the most prominent crime reported last year.
