AN airline worker accused of raping his lover was granted bail by the Waigani Committal Court yesterday after he spent a week in the Boroko police cell.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar granted bail for Benjamin Janget, from Tambunum village in Angoram, East Sepik, who is employed with Air Niugini at the cargo section.
Janget was arrested by police for allegedly raping his lover on Sept 31 last year.
He applied for bail, through his lawyer, on the grounds that he was a father of three children attending primary school and police had taken almost four months to arrest him.
Bidar stated that it was bail before conviction and that there was a presumption of innocence.
He granted Janget K300 bail and ordered he be released from prison once payment was made.
Janget will appear on Wednesday.
He had two guarantors.
