AN Eastern Highlands man has admitted to having sex with a minor, saying that he was drunk at the time.
Allen Ken pleaded guilty before the Waigani National Court to three counts of sexual penetration after State prosecutors had presented the indictment.
The victim was a 12-year-old girl.
Justice George Manuhu confirmed Ken’s plea after going through the committal court deposition and ordered the case return on Sept 2 for a pre-sentence report.
Ken expressed remorse for his actions on the victim and her family, saying that he was a first-time offender and had changed his ways during his time in remand.
Ken asked for leniency stating that he had made a bad mistake.
He told the court that he was not in control as he had been drunk at the time of the incident.
Ken said his time in remand had been hard on his family as he was the main supporter.
He was returned to remand to await his sentencing on Sept 2.
According to police report, on Aug 13, 2019, between 4am and 5am, the victim was asleep at a haus krai at the Air Transport Squadron’s (ATS) Apo block when the incident took place.
Ken took her to his house at ATS under the pretext of getting her to help his wife with preparing food for the haus krai.
He then assaulted her and forcefully had sex with her and kept the girl until 1am before letting her go.
