The National, Thursday July 9th, 2015
A MAN has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a teenaged girl at 14-Mile outside Port Moresby.
Central provincial police commander Chief Inspector Laimo Asi said the 24-year-old man from Guari, Goilala district, in Central, was reported to police for allegedly touching the private parts of the 14-year-old girl at Ilimo Farm outside Port Moresby
The girl and her friends were having a swim in the river when the man committed the offence.
Asi said the girl reported the matter to the police, and commended her for doing so.
“A lot of young women and girls do experience harassment from males regularly but because of the intimidation and shame, they do not report this matter to the police,” he said.
“If they do, the offenders will be arrested and charged. We have to protect our women.”
He urged parents and adults to counsel children they see “touching” other children.
