Man assaults woman for swearing

A DEFENDANT told the Mt Hagen District Court that he assaulted a drunken woman after she swore at him in front of the town’s police station.
Defendant Jacob Philip, 36, from Warakum in Hagen Central, appeared from police custody yesterday. He said that he assaulted Jennifer Karre, 22, from Kala village, also in Hagen Centra,l after she told him to eat her private part on Friday night.
Philip told the court that Karre was “overdrunk” and came to the police station where he was standing and uttered the words.
“I got angry and assaulted her for swearing at me at the police station,” he said.
Police prosecutor Jeffrey Tawit told the court that on Friday night, Philip tried to steal a mobile phone costing K500 belonging to Karre.
Tawit told the court that Philip got the phone and tried to run away.
Police said that Philip was angry and punched Karre who fell into a drain opposite the police station.
Police said that one of police task force members on night duty ran after Philip and caught him and took him back to police station where he was arrested and charged.
Magistrate Donald Joseph told the police prosecution, victim and defendant to bring their witnesses on July 24 for a trial.
