LAE police yesterday charged a man who allegedly sewed his sister-in-law’s genitalia and locked it with a padlock.
Robin Borezi, 39, of Bau village in the Huon Gulf district, Morobe, was charged with one count each of rape and deprivation of liberty and two counts of unlawful wounding.
Lae Met Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr said police did not lay charges last week because they had to wait for the victim to recover from her injuries before she could assist with the investigation.
“The suspect will appear in court (expected today),” he said.
A female officer had noted that the victim was in pain and discomfort when she was providing a report to police last week.
She later revealed that her genitals were stitched and locked.
She told police that she and her children lived in fear in their home at 9-Mile because the suspect continuously assaulted, threatened, raped and sexually abused her.
She told police that she had tried to escape but the suspect kept follow ing her and threatening to kill her.
The woman’s husband is reportedly in Port Moresby.
“I condemn such acts and call for public to assist in observing and reporting such cases,” Wagambie said.
