Man charged with attempted murder
A MAN accused of attempting to kill another man with a metal rod has appeared at the Waigani Committal Court.
Malcolm Frank, 36, of Tinsly village in Baiyer, Western Highlands, was charged with one count of attempted murder where he was alleged to have hit Singo Shane Gavu on his head with a metal rod nearly killing him.
Frank was arraigned in court by Magistrate Ernest Wilmot yesterday.
The alleged offence took place about 11pm on Aug 31, at Hohola, Port Moresby.
Police alleged that Gavu and his father were driving up Vahuvahu St, North Hohola, when Frank swore at them.
Gavu came out of the vehicle and asked him why he swore at them when Frank got a metal rod and hit him on his forehead.
Gavu fell unconscious on the ground with a wound to his forehead.
His father rushed him to Pacific International Hospital where he was treated.
Frank was apprehended on Sept 1 by Hohola police and was detained at Boroko Police Station.
He was questioned the following day where he admitted to the offence, saying he acted in self-defence after being attacked by more than six men.
He was formally arrested and charged.
He returns to court on Oct 10.
