A man from Hela who allegedly nearly cut off the hand of another man appeared at the Waigani Committal Court on Tuesday.
Wilson Tagobe, 34, from Tari-Pori district, in Hela, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm on Daniel Usapuna on May 28 at Morata  in Port Moresby.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar read Tagobe’s charges in court and stressed on the threatening words “bai yu dai” (you will die) Tagobe used before attacking Usapuna.
Bidar told Tagobe that his case was fresh and that police had to complete investigations into the matter.
On the morning of May 28, at Morata 2, Tagobe and two others walked into Usapuna’s residence and demanded his wife to sign a court document when she came out to meet them.
It was alleged that Tagobe returned to Usapuna’s residence in the afternoon armed with a bush knife and swung it at Usapuna’s head.
Usapuna lifted his arm to block the knife and as a result sustained a deep wound and fractured bone.
Tagobe is on an extended bail of K500 and will return to court  on July 28.
