Man charged with causing grievous bodily harm

A 39-year-old man has appeared before the Waigani Committal Court for hitting another person in the head with a rock at Regione St, Badili, Port Moresby.
Noel Peter, from Komakun village, Imbonggu in the Southern Highlands, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Peter Kua on July 24.
It was alleged that there was a fight among the youths from Goilala, Chimbu and Ialibu at Regione St, Badili, at about 6pm when the victim who was nearby, went to see what the commotion was about.
While observing, the accused came from behind and hit Kua on the left side of his head with a rock for no apparent reason.
The victim collapsed and was lying unconscious on the ground when the accused fled the scene.
Kua was later rushed to the hospital for treatment and was diagnosed with serious head trauma and was in hospital for a week.
The matter was reported to the Badili Police Station and the accused was apprehended at his home by the police after receiving information on his whereabouts.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Ernest Wilmot on Thursday on charges of grievous bodily harm.
Wilmot adjourned his case to Sept 5 for submissions with an extended bail of K500.
Meanwhile, a man was accused of attempted arm robbery of another person with his wife while they were driving out of their property at Erima.
Ryan John Kare, from Marawaka village, Obura-Wonenara, Eastern Highlands, was apprehended while his accomplices were still at large after they tried to hold up Leva Koi and his wife.
