A MAN charged with dangerous driving causing death appeared before the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar, when reading the charges to Nathan Andrew, 31, from Tambunum village in Angoram, East Sepik, said he was alleged to have recklessly drove a sedan on May 18 on Vadavada road in Port Moresby, while carrying three passengers.
According to police reports, the car was travelling from Taurama towards Manu Autoport when Andrew lost control of the vehicle and it went off the road and hit a light pole.
The three passengers – Jacob Billy, Ken Andrew, and Frederick Sarea – died as a result of the accident.
Andrew appeared in court on K1,000 bail.
“The manner in which you drove was dangerous,” Bidar said.
“Since this is a new case, we shall allow time for the traffic police to conduct investigations and the matter to return after a month’s time.
“A copy of the file will also have to reach the public prosecutor’s office for it to be elected, to decide if this court will deal with this matter,” he said.
The court extended Andrews bail and adjourned the matter for mention on Oct 17.
