Man charged with robbing bakery, remanded

A MAN, 28, charged with robbing a bakery was yesterday remanded by Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Dessie Kaputin Magaru.
Murphy Miro, of Lese village in Malalaua, Gulf, was charged with one count of armed robbery of the Boulanger Bakery at Vadavada, Taurama, in the National Capital District.
It was alleged that on May 9, at about 6:59am, Miro and his accomplices allegedly drove to the bakery in a dark green Toyota Camry and held up the bakery manager and his employees.
Miro and two others armed with pistols entered the bakery and pointed their guns at nine employees and forced them all into the manager’s office.
Bakery manger Louie Balbuena was already in his office at the time.
Miro pointed his pistol at Balbuena and demanded money.
Balbuena took a money bag from under his table containing K40,000 in cash and handed it over to Miro and his accomplices.
The men took the money and left the scene.
The matter was reported to police.
Miro was apprehended on May 16 at Tokarara by Fox 204 Unit and taken to the Boroko Police Station where he was detained.
He was later taken to the Armed Robbery Squad Office by Criminal Investigation Division – Armed Robbery on May 18 for questioning and was charged.
The case was adjourned to June 9 for further mention.
