Man chopped to death by enemy tribe

A 20-year old man was chopped to pieces in a surprise attack by his former enemies in Ambum district, Enga province.
Acting provincial police commander, Chief Insp Epenes Nili told The National yesterday that the deceased from Kai clan was sitting on Anditali river bridge last Friday morning when Timtim clansmen attacked him.
Nili said that the fight between the Kai and Timtim clans was stopped two weeks ago with the signing of a peace agreement and he issued preventive orders to the two warring sides at Wabag police station.
He said police were now taking the incident last Friday as willful murder and those who breached the order would face the full force of the law.
“I want to appeal to the Timtim clansmen who have gone into hiding to voluntarily hand over the suspects to the police,” Nili said.
He said police had been issued orders to arrest any Timtim clansmen and the clansmen were afraid and left their village and gone into hiding.
He said policemen were now camping out at Sigiro Primary School and Anditali High School to arrest any Timtim clansmen they came across.
He said preventive orders were important and those breaching them would be arrested.
He said offenders would face up to two years imprisonment or would be asked to pay a K1000 court fine.
Nili commended the relatives of the decease and his Kai clansmen for their stand not to retaliate but had asked police to investigate and arrest those responsible and punish them for offences they committed.
