Man denies charge
AN elderly man was charged with gambling and released on K300 bail by the Mount Hagen district court on Monday.
Thomas Kunjil, from Baiyer-Lumusa’s Husa village, Western Highlands, was arrested on Saturday with others at Queens Park in Mt Hagen city.
Kunjil pleaded not guilty to gambling and magistrate Donald Joseph adjourned the case to Friday.
Police said they would be calling three witnesses while Kunjil said he would be calling one witness.
In another case in the same court, a 23-year-old man pleaded not guilty to punching his girlfriend near the former Tribes Theatre, opposite the Mt Hagen police station.
Abraham Ben, from Jiwaka’s Kindeng village, had initially pleaded guilty but changed his plea later.
Ben claimed that he attacked Freda Goiba after seeing her with another man walking in front of him.
Joseph adjourned hearing to Friday for the police to produce witnesses.
