ONE of two expatriates charged with possession of unlicensed guns and ammunitions in Alotau, Milne Bay, has claimed in court that the exhibits are not his.
Standing before Senior Magistrate Rebecca Kwayaila, 62-year-old Huong Haw Chin, 62, a Malaysian businessman from Sibu, Sarawak, denied ownership.
Magistrate Kwayaila adjourned the case and told the police prosecutor to advise police investigators and other persons of interest to return to court on Oct 13.
Police Comm David Manning confirmed Huong’s appearance to The National and said police continued their investigation into the guns and ammunition.
Huong had previously pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Kwayaila.
Police alleged that he had been registering and obtaining firearms and licences for buyers through illegal means.
Several firearms were found in the property he occupied, but there were no proper legal documents to help police to verify whether the firearms and ammunitions were brought through proper means.
Also facing court was Vaine Marsters, a 59-year-old widow from the Cook Islands, who was also charged with the same offence but her plea was not taken.
Magistrate Kwayaila adjourned Marsters’ hearing to Monday.
