BULOLO police are investigating a case of an expatriate alluvial gold miner who allegedly obtained K35,000 worth of goods on credit from a shop four months ago and has not paid.
Eddie Woo, the site manager of an alluvial gold mining company in Wau called Oceania Ltd, is alleged to have approached Jabanari Super Centre Store Ltd in April and got goods worth more than K35,000 on credit.
Police reports indicated that attempts made by the shop’s management and its owner over the following months regarding payment of the goods were unsuccessful.
The shop management then obtained a five-day debt notice from Bulolo District Court and served it on Woo. Before the debt notice expired, Woo wrote two cheques on the same date, containing two different dates – July 19 for goods worth K15,567.67 and Aug 3 for a second lot of goods worth K20,000. The dates were written according to the clearance of those cheques. However, the clearance date lapsed and the cheques turned out to be valueless.
The Jabanari Super Centre Store Ltd lodged a formal complaint at the Bulolo Police Station on Aug 26.
Woo is expected to be charged with stealing under false pretence.
