A MAN who used an axe to attack a woman was yesterday fined K500 by the Lae District Court.

Magistrate Nasaling Bingtau told Anton Jinimbo that his actions were serious and threatened the life of a person.

The court heard that during a community meeting at 3-Mile outside Lae last Sunday, Jinimbo chased his sister-in-law Margaret Micah and threw an axe at her.

The axe hit Micah on her right leg.

Jinimbo, from East Sepik, denied that the axe hit her.

The meeting was held to get him to pay compensation to Micah’s husband, who Jinimbo had allegedly injured in an earlier attack.

Bingtau told the father-of-four that his actions were life-threatening and ordered him to pay a K500 fine or be jailed for 12 months.

In another case, a man was jailed for 12 months for being in possession of three bullets in Wau, Morobe.

The suspect was part of a group of 11 men caught by police with the bullets and devices used for committing robberies.

The man admitted that the bullets belonged to him and wanted to use them for hunting.

Police stopped the men in Wau around 12.30pm last Sunday and found a pinch bar, screw-drivers, a wire-cutter, pliers, bolt-cutter, portable oxy bottles and shifter spanners in the vehicle.
