A Chimbu man who was convicted of being in possession of marijuana in Lae, Morobe, has been ordered by a court to pay a K1,000 fine or in default spend a year in jail.
Lae District Court Magistrate Pious Tapil issued this order last Monday to Gobea Elizah, 20, from Dell village in Chimbu’s Sinasina.
Elizah was charged with dealing with a dangerous drug.
The court heard that on June 18, police where monitoring the closed circuit television for Lae’s main market when they noticed Elizah acting suspiciously.
Police personnel were then dispatched to the market to search Elizah.
Police said during the search they found seven rolls of dried marijuana inside a white shopping bag which were worth K10 each.
