A MAN who robbed a woman of K250 has been jailed for 12 months on the condition that he repays the amount on his release.

Lae magistrate Nasaling Bingtau told Michael Peter that his actions were “evil” and he was a threat to the community.

The court heard that on Monday, April 8, at Kamkumung Kona, Peter while under the influence of alcohol held up the woman and removed her wallet containing K250 cash.

Peter admitted the charge when Bingtau asked him.

“After you come out from prison you must repay the complainant’s money within 14 days,” he said.

“If you fail to do so you will be locked up for another six months.”

In another case, a woman who has been avoiding paying back a loan for two months was fined K300 by the Lae Committal Court.

She was also ordered to repay the loan.

The court heard that on Feb 2, mother-of-three Ruthie Jacob from Huon district, Morobe, borrowed K600 from a woman and promised to pay it back within a week.

The court heard that she made no attempt to repay the money until she was caught on April 11 at the Lae DCA betel nut market.

The court ordered her to repay the money within 14 days or spend 12 months in jail.
